A brief history of LPFC courtesy of local historian Ronnie Allen, with details of the achievements of our brave chaps who represented our village back in 1948/49. Originally formed in 1946, the club’s first season 1947/1948 was within the Craven League Second Division. The first ever game played was held at Long Preston and was against Horton, the score being 3-3. Gane, Irving and Bicknell were the scorers. The following season was also very successful as seen by the table opposite. There are to date only four surviving members of the original team living either in Long Preston or surrounding villages they are Frank Irving, Tom Clay, Robert Slater and John Metcalfe. The original team colours were black and amber stripes, these colours were resurrected by the current team in honor of the old team. |
