"The helpers arrived at Long Preston Village Hall from 8am, and
started setting up, getting ready to feed the hungry faces that were to appear (some hungrier than others, Duggie) over
the next few hours. For the last bacon butty morning, Mick Snape appeared after a heavy night out in Skipton. But this season
has seen a new Snape evolve, and this one was busy cooking flapjack for the club on a Friday night, and arrived fresh faced on
Saturday morning complete with "Snape's Sticky Flapjack" to sell.
With the signs erected in the village, the baps buttered, bacon
cooking and kettles full, we waited for the onslaught ...
...and we weren't to be disappointed, so the pressure was
on, but it didn't get to Harry who kept his cool despite not moving from the cooker and receiving fat burns for his troubles! Keane
did his best Apprentice impressions, selling raffle to tickets to anyone who moved, and Kev Green showed his domestic side with
some superb washing up! There were even attempts to domesticate Craig Porter, by showing him how dirty plates become clean again,
and hopefully he took it all on board!
Our gaffer even made a brief appearance (despite previously informing us he couldn't help
out as he was away) for two takeaway butties, a shocking example to set to all!
A huge thanks to everyone who came along and
supported the event, players and public, we made just under £300 for the club.
Special thanks to those players who gave
up their Saturday morning to help out, and to Jean Rodgers, Kate Attewell, Marian Webster, Sophie and Emily Baker, for their help
with the raffle and tombola."
