LPFC Is Older Than The Sun...

It has been uncovered that our very on LPFC is much older an institution than we first thought. It seems there are records dating the club back to the 19th century (at least). The following is courtesy of the Rev. Rachel Wilson from the March 2009 edition of Long Preston Parish Magazine.

"Searching through records and papers stored at St Mary's, I came across some Parish Magazines from the turn of the last century. In the edition of November 1899 we read about the football club."

"The Football Club was revived at a meeting held at the Vicarage on Tuesday, Sep. 26th. The Vicar was elected President, and the following gentlemen have accepted the Club's invitation to become Vice Presidents; Drs. Ferguson and Marsh and Messrs. Charnley, Lovell, Thelwell, and R.T. Wildman.
The Committee of the club consists of Messrs. G. Matthews (captain), J.W. Moreland (vice-captain), A. Jackman (secretary), E. Russell (treasurer), and W. Bolton, G. Foster, W. Popay, J.W. Pye, and S. Smith.

The first game, played on Oct. 14th, resulted in a victory over the Vicar's team by four goals to one. On the 21st. The club suffered defeat at the hands of Gisburn by three to one.
The following month the club beat Horton at home, 8:2, but the return match against Gisburn was not played 'owing to the non-appearance of our opponents - presumably lost in the fog'! The second team was defeated by Hellifield 4:1."

See, we've got a proper histroy and everything!
